Spartanburg Medical Center lab and point-of-care lab receive global recognition for excellence in quality standards

By Staff reports on August 3, 2026

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to the Spartanburg Medical Center laboratory and point-of-care testing laboratory based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP's accreditation programs.

Recognized for rigorous and robust standards, CAP accreditation elevates quality and mitigates risk, an important way that laboratories can contribute to improved patient outcomes.

"CAP laboratory accreditation is a prestigious designation that, under peer scrutiny, reflects the Spartanburg Medical Center lab's dedication to exceeding the clinical laboratory standards,” said Dr. Alexander Maris, the facility’s director. “I'm incredibly proud to be a part of a laboratory that prides itself on delivering the highest quality laboratory values for patient care."

For patients, this means greater confidence that laboratory test results are precise, timely and dependable—helping healthcare providers make informed decisions about care.

CAP accreditation is one of many quality initiatives that support Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System's commitment to delivering safe, evidence-based care.

By maintaining nationally recognized standards across its laboratories, the organization continues to invest in the processes and technologies that help ensure patients receive the highest quality care possible.

"I want to express our sincere appreciation and pride in the extraordinary commitment demonstrated by our laboratory team in pursuit of CAP accreditation,” said Kevin Matson, president of Spartanburg Medical Center. “Achieving and sustaining this level of excellence requires not only technical expertise, but also an unwavering dedication to quality, accuracy and patient safety."
