Spartanburg Medical Center lab and point-of-care lab receive global recognition for excellence in quality standards

By Staff reports on June 18, 2026

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to the Spartanburg Medical Center laboratory and point-of-care testing laboratory based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP's accreditation programs.

Recognized for rigorous and robust standards, CAP accreditation elevates quality and mitigates risk, an important way that laboratories can contribute to improved patient outcomes.

"CAP laboratory accreditation is a prestigious designation that, under peer scrutiny, reflects the

Spartanburg Medical Center lab's dedication to exceeding the clinical laboratory standards,” said Dr. Alexander Maris, the facility’s director. “I'm incredibly proud to be a part of a laboratory that prides itself on delivering the highest quality laboratory values for Spartanburg Regional patient care."

These labs at Spartanburg Medical Center are two of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

"I want to express our sincere appreciation and pride in the extraordinary commitment demonstrated by our laboratory team in pursuit of CAP accreditation,” said Phil Feisal, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Chief Operating Officer-Hospital Group. “Achieving and sustaining this level of excellence requires not only technical expertise, but also an unwavering dedication to quality, accuracy and patient safety."
