The Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Sports Medicine Institute (SMI) and the Carolina Football Club (CFC) have partnered to enhance the athletic experience for young soccer players.

SMI will offer soccer-specific performance training to CFC participants as part of the institute's STACK partnership, from Aug. 22 to Nov. 21.

The CFC is a charitable soccer organization in the Upstate for children ages 5 to 18. CFC is under the direction of Executive Director Rafe Mauran, Director of Coaching Amer Resumovic and a talented coaching staff at CFC.

“This partnership will help better prepare and train athletes through CFC,” said Gary Hazelwood, M.Ed., SMI sports performance supervisor. “If any of the athletes are injured, they are able to make a seamless transition to the Sports Medicine Institute for care.”

The first noticeable detail of this partnership: The SMI logo will adorn CFC's training jerseys for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

The SMI is a division of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. Other services provided by the Sports Medicine Institute include outreach athletic training, physical therapy and rehabilitation, physician clinics, and education and research.

“As the partnership between these two organizations grows, we hope to provide resources and a high level of care for all the athletes and families associated with the CFC,” Hazelwood said.
