Spartanburg Regional Nurse Residency Program earns ANCC accreditation with distinction
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System has earned Practice Transition Accreditation with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for its Transition to Practice Nurse Residency Program.
This is the highest recognition awarded through ANCC’s Accreditation Program.
The prestigious designation affirms Spartanburg Regional’s commitment to helping new graduate nurses successfully transition from the classroom to professional practice. The accreditation encompasses six participating acute care campuses and a wide range of nursing specialties, including medical-surgical, critical care, emergency services, pediatrics, oncology, labor and delivery and neonatal intensive care.
For nurses beginning their careers, the distinction means entering a nationally recognized residency program designed to provide structure, guidance and support throughout the critical first year of practice.
"We are incredibly proud to receive Nurse Residency Transition to Practice Accreditation with Distinction. This recognition validates the intentional investment we make in supporting new graduate nurses as they transition from the classroom into professional practice,” said Shelly McMillan, system director of professional practice, innovation and workforce development. “Developing the next generation of nurses is essential to the future of health care, and this distinction reflects our commitment to building a strong, confident and highly skilled nursing workforce.”
The Nurse Residency Program focuses on both competency development and professional growth. Through ongoing education, mentorship, peer support and regular feedback, nurse residents receive the resources needed to build essential skills and navigate the transition into practice. Residents have reported feeling supported, prepared and more confident as they begin their nursing careers.
The program integrates critical professional skills such as communication, critical thinking, time management, teamwork, and well-being, ensuring nurses are prepared to meet the demands of the healthcare environment. Residents also receive constant feedback, along with support whenever competency gaps are identified.
“Our Nurse Residency Program is more than a transition into practice; it is an investment in our nurses, our patients and the future of our workforce, ensuring we are prepared to provide exceptional care to the communities we serve," McMillan said.
For nurses considering where to begin their careers, Spartanburg Regional offers more than a first job. It offers a nationally recognized pathway to professional success.
