Supporting hope, healing and early detection through Strength in Pink

By Staff reports on October 13, 2026

When people think about strength, they often picture something bold and visible. But some of the strongest moments happen quietly: scheduling a mammogram, attending a follow-up appointment, beginning treatment or supporting a loved one through a cancer diagnosis.

That idea is at the heart of Strength in Pink, a community-wide fundraising movement created by Spartanburg Regional Foundation to support local breast cancer patients and expand access to breast health services throughout the Upstate. The campaign brings together businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations, families and individuals around a shared mission to help ensure no one faces breast cancer alone.

Unlike many national fundraising efforts, Strength in Pink supports local breast health initiatives and patient assistance programs that help remove barriers to care and improve access to early detection services. Funds also support programs connected to the Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health and other Foundation-supported breast cancer initiatives.

Why early detection matters

Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting women, and early detection often leads to better outcomes. Yet many patients face obstacles that can delay potentially lifesaving screenings. Financial concerns, lack of transportation and gaps in insurance coverage can make it difficult for patients to access the care they need when they need it most.

Through donor-supported programs, Spartanburg Regional Foundation is helping address those challenges. Donor funding provided 276 mammograms in 2025, helping patients access critical screening services and giving families greater peace of mind through earlier diagnosis and intervention.

A grassroots effort with community-wide impact

One of the unique aspects of Strength in Pink is its flexibility. Organizations and individuals can participate in ways that fit their interests, schedules and resources. Community members might organize themed events, workplace fundraisers, school activities, church campaigns, athletic events or other creative initiatives to raise awareness and support local patients. Strength in Pink provides participants with ready-made promotional materials to help make participation simple and accessible.

Supporting patients close to home

For breast cancer patients and their families, the journey often involves more than medical treatment. Physical, emotional, logistical and financial challenges can affect nearly every aspect of daily life.

Supporting local breast health programs and patient assistance efforts, Strength in Pink helps ensure that community members have access to resources that can make a meaningful difference during a difficult time.

A community united by compassion

For Foundation leaders, Strength in Pink reflects the generosity that has long defined the Spartanburg community.

“Strength in Pink gives our community an opportunity to come together around a cause that touches so many families,” said Shelly Sinclair, senior director of philanthropy. “Every fundraiser, every donation and every act of support helps provide hope and access to care for local patients facing breast cancer. What makes this campaign especially meaningful is that every dollar stays here, helping our neighbors, friends and loved ones receive the services and support they need.”

How to get involved

Businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations and individuals are encouraged to participate in Strength in Pink. Whether hosting a fundraising event, making a donation or helping spread awareness, every contribution supports local patients and strengthens access to breast health resources in the community.

Because sometimes strength is found in a simple act of generosity. And together, those acts can help change lives.
