For Dr. Chad Cash, joining Medical Group of the Carolinas is more than a career milestone. It's a homecoming. 

A Greenville native, Dr. Cash grew up in the Upstate before attending Clemson University, where he met his wife. He later earned his medical degree in Spartanburg and completed his general surgery residency with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.  

After spending the last three years in Kansas City completing advanced fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery, he is returning home to care for patients in the community that helped shape him. 

"It's a chance to come back home," Dr. Cash said.

Dr. Cash always knew he wanted a career in health care, but it was surgery that ultimately captured his interest. 

"I like being able to use my hands and see tangible results," he said. "You can identify a problem, fix a problem and see the impact you're making." 

That passion for problem-solving continues to drive him today. While every patient arrives with a unique diagnosis and set of circumstances, Dr. Cash enjoys combining technical skills, medical knowledge and creativity to find the best solution for everyone. 

During his general surgery training, Dr. Cash originally planned to pursue a career in trauma surgery. However, a rotation in cardiac surgery quickly changed his path. 

"About three days into the rotation, I knew," he said. "The complexity of the heart and the physiology involved really drew me in." 

Today, Dr. Cash specializes in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, caring for patients with conditions affecting the heart, lungs and blood vessels. He was attracted to the field because of the precision it demands and the critical role it plays in restoring and preserving patients' health. 

For patients facing heart surgery, Dr. Cash understands that a diagnosis can feel overwhelming. That's why communication and education are at the center of his approach to care. 

"I go through every patient's imaging with them," he said. "Most people know they have a problem, but they haven't seen what it looks like. I want them to visualize what's happening and understand their options." 

Whether treatment involves surgery or a less invasive approach, Dr. Cash believes patients deserve honest conversations about risks, benefits and expected outcomes so they can make informed decisions with confidence. 

Outside the operating room, Dr. Cash enjoys spending time with his wife of 10 years and their two children. The family lives in the Five Forks area, where they stay busy with family activities, exercise and cheering on Clemson athletics. 

As he begins this next chapter with Medical Group of the Carolinas and Spartanburg Regional, Dr. Cash is excited to provide advanced cardiovascular care close to home. 

"For me, this community has always been home," he said. "It's rewarding to be able to come back and care for the people who live here."
