Spartanburg Medical Center attains national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program
Accreditation demonstrates Spartanburg Medical Center’s commitment to ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery
Spartanburg Medical Center has received accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) to signify the hospital’s dedication to consistently improve procedures and maintain safe and effective weight loss surgeries for patients.
The accreditation program is a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
MBSAQIP is a comprehensive, nationwide surgical quality program aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery.
Surgical outcomes focus on weight loss and the treatment of obesity-related diseases, like diabetes, sleep apnea and others. Research shows accredited centers experience lower complications, and better outcomes than that of non-accredited facilities.
“Our MBSAQIP accredited weight loss surgery program is more than just a certification—it's a commitment to providing patients with the highest standard of care, expertise and support, ensuring their journey toward health and wellness is safe, successful and sustainable,” said Dr. Paul Ross, a bariatric surgeon with Medical Group of the Carolinas – Weight Loss Services. “I am truly grateful to work with such a dedicated and skilled team of professionals whose support has been instrumental in ensuring the continued excellence of our program.”
As an MBSAQIP-accredited hospital, Spartanburg Medical Center also becomes an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies a hospital’s dedication to consistently improve procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step.
This distinction illustrates Spartanburg Medical Center’s dedication to quality and consistency, knowing that Surgical Quality Partners are adhering to the most rigorous standards in surgical quality.
"ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience, and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality. As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, Spartanburg Medical Center has shown a commitment to provide the best possible patient care, evaluate that care in a rigorous fashion and dedicate themselves to continuous self-improvement," said ACS Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS.
