New family medicine physician brings passion for listening to Boiling Springs
Patients in Boiling Springs have a new partner in their healthcare journeys.
Tiffany Fanter, DO, has joined Medical Group of the Carolinas - Family Medicine - Boiling Springs, bringing a unique background that combines advanced scientific research with a deep commitment to personal, relationship-based care.
Dr. Fanter's path to medicine was anything but traditional. Before attending medical school, she earned a master's degree in epigenetics and completed a PhD in epidemiology with a focus on genetics. She originally envisioned a career in research, spending years studying disease and population health.
But during her doctoral work, something changed.
"Through my research, I had opportunities to interact with patients," Dr. Fanter said. "I realized I enjoyed talking with people and helping them directly much more than being behind a computer. That's when I knew I wanted to become a physician."
After completing her PhD, Dr. Fanter attended Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and later completed her Family Medicine Residency at Spartanburg Regional, where she cared for patients of all ages and developed strong ties to the Upstate.
Now, she is excited to continue serving the community she came to know during residency.
"I feel very blessed and privileged to join the Boiling Springs practice," she said. "It's an incredible group of physicians, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to care for patients here."
As an osteopathic physician, Dr. Fanter embraces a whole-person approach to medicine. She believes health care is most effective when physicians understand not only a patient's symptoms, but also the many factors that influence overall well-being.
"Osteopathic medicine is about looking at the entire person," she said. "Physical health, emotional health, mental health, lifestyle, family dynamics, they all work together. Every patient is unique, and it's important to understand the full picture."
Listening is at the heart of her philosophy.
"Patients know their bodies better than anyone," Dr. Fanter said. "One of the most important things a physician can do is listen. If a patient tells you something doesn't feel right, you have to take that seriously."
During new patient visits, Dr. Fanter intentionally takes the time to get to know the person behind the medical record.
"I like learning about where patients come from, what they do and what's important in their lives," she said. "That helps me understand them better and provide better care. I never want patients to feel rushed."
Family medicine's broad scope is one of the reasons she chose the specialty.
"I love caring for patients across every stage of life," she said. "From newborns to older adults, you get to build relationships that last for years. It's incredibly rewarding."
Outside of medicine, Dr. Fanter enjoys watercolor painting, crafting, reading fantasy and science fiction novels, and spending time with her husband and their three dogs.
Most of all, she looks forward to building lasting relationships with families throughout the growing Boiling Springs community.
"Being a physician is a privilege," she said. "I'm honored to be part of my patients' lives and help them improve their health and quality of life.”
