Fellowship-trained Dr. Adam Back brings personalized spine and neurosurgical care to Spartanburg Regional

By Staff reports on February 18, 2026

Fellowship-trained neurosurgeon Dr. Adam Back has joined Medical Group of the Carolinas – Neurosurgery – Wood Street, bringing advanced training in both complex spine reconstruction and minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Back completed a fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at Duke University Medical Center after earning his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. His training provided extensive experience across the full spectrum of spinal and cranial disorders, from critically ill patients requiring complex surgical management to individuals seeking less invasive treatment options.

Dr. Back looks forward to helping ensure patients receive timely access to specialized treatment and a consistent, high standard of care.

Prior to joining Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Dr. Back provided neurosurgical care at Carolina Orthopedic & Neurosurgical Associates. He also served patients through a spine program with the Medical University of South Carolina and previously led spine surgery services in Charlotte.

“From early in my training, I was drawn to caring for patients with spinal and cranial disorders,” Dr. Back said. “What I value most is being able to tailor care to the individual — whether that means complex surgery, a minimally invasive approach, or helping a patient avoid surgery altogether.”

Dr. Back will treat patients within the Spine Program at Spartanburg Medical Center.

“My goal is to partner closely with patients,” he said. “We take the time to review all options, consider overall health and long-term goals, and determine the safest and most effective path forward.”
