A passion for caring
Natalie Vajta, MD, has a lot of passions.
She loves the outdoors and exploring food culture.
She loves Italy, from the caves off the Amalfi coast to the Eternal City of Rome. She studied abroad in Australia and enjoys spending time in Hawaii.
She's a woman of the world, with a love of culture and diversity that started in her own home – she's a first-generation American born to a Korean mom and a Hungarian dad.
Despite her globe-trotting ways, Dr. Vajta knew she would eventually return to the Upstate where she was born and raised. Today, she's one of the newest pediatricians at Medical Group of the Carolinas - Pediatrics - Boiling Springs.
Dr. Vajta was born in Greenville. She lived in California from second through seventh grade and then came back to the Upstate. She lived in New York during medical school.
“I've always pictured coming back,” Dr. Vajta said. “I want to serve the community that raised me.”
As a pediatrician, Dr. Vajta said she has a unique advantage – her height.
“I'm 5 feet, 1 inch tall,” Dr. Vajta said. “I had to go into peds because I'm on their level.”
She prides herself on being approachable and friendly. For Dr. Vajta, it's important to acknowledge the child as the patient and include them in conversations about their health.
“Medicine is the Lord's tool to help me love on people,” Dr. Vajta said.
Studying medicine helped her satisfy another passion – Dr. Vajta loves science.
“I always knew I wanted to work with kids,” Dr. Vajta said. “Then I realized I'm a nerd and love experiments and science.”
It was also important to join an established practice that emphasizes relationships. Dr. Vajta will already have a friend at the practice she has joined – fellow pediatrician Michelle Sayles, MD.
“We've known each other since the first year of medical school in 2012,” Dr. Vajta said.
They became close friends and decided they wanted to work together as well.
“We cried on match day when we realized we were going to be together,” Dr. Vajta said. “We want to be the next generation of care here.”
