Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health, Education Room

Healthy & Balanced is a weight loss and physical activity support group for cancer survivors. Maintaining a healthy weight, consuming a nutrient rich diet, and engaging in regular physical activity after the completion of cancer treatment can be challenging. With the proper tools and support you can find your healthy balance while achieving your weight loss and physical activity goals! Cancer Survivors Day

Sunday, June 6, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Upward Star Center

Cancer Survivors Day honors the perseverance and courage of all cancer survivors. Join the Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute staff for an afternoon of celebrating survivorship, drive-thru style! We have to-go meals for you and three guests. Your guests must be in the vehicle with you.

 

Prepared Breastfeeding 

Monday, June 6, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tuesday, June 21, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Online Class 

This two-hour class will help you get a healthy start to breastfeeding your newborn. Learn about milk production, feeding cues, latching techniques, milk storage and problem-solving tips for successful breastfeeding. This class is taught by a certified lactation consultant. Gibbs Cancer Center — Pelham Demo Kitchen, second floor

Healthy and Balanced is a weight loss and physical activity support group for cancer survivors. Maintaining a healthy weight, consuming a nutrient rich diet, and engaging in regular physical activity after the completion of cancer treatment can be challenging. Weight Loss Surgery Support Group

Learn everything you need to know about the childbirth process and the options available to you during pregnancy, labor and delivery. The information you learn in this comprehensive, fact-based class will help reduce your anxiety and help you have a more positive birth experience. Prostate Cancer Screening

Tuesday, June 14, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Gibbs Cancer Center – Union

One in seven men will get prostate cancer, the second most common non-skin cancer in the United States. A new case is diagnosed every three minutes. The five-year survival rate for prostate cancer is nearly 100 percent. Gibbs Cancer Center is offering free prostate screenings for qualifying men ages 40-64 and for men with an increased risk of developing prostate cancer. Qualifying factors include uninsured men or men without a primary care physician who has not had a PSA test in the last year within the recommended age range. Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection

Safe Kids 101 for New and Expecting Parents 

Wednesday, June 15, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

This one-hour webinar includes information about basic car seat features, installation techniques and how to choose an appropriate car seat based on your child’s age, height and weight. Be Prostate Aware

The prostate undergoes many changes during the course of a man’s life and generally remains stable until men reach their mid-40s. It is important to know that most changes are not cancer but should be screened and monitored by your doctor. Join us for lunch to hear radiation oncologist Dan Fried, MD, speak about prostate health, explain the process of discovering and diagnosing prostate cancer and share the latest treatment options available at Gibbs Cancer Center.

 

Just the Ticket: Child Passenger Safety

This class is designed specifically for violators of the child passenger occupant law. This class covers information about South Carolina’s child passenger laws, the safest way to secure your child in a vehicle, proper car seat installation, when to update or replace your child’s car seat and other safety tips to help keep your child safe on the road.
