Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System has so many events to choose from, with something for everyone from childbirth to cooking and heart health. Check out what we offer and sign up today.  
 

Prepared Parents: Infant CPR (In-person) 

Monday, Aug. 4, 2 to 2:30 p.m.

In collaboration with our March of Dimes NICU Family Support Program, we are excited to offer our community an Infant CPR class option. 

Infant CPR offers lifesaving safety information. This non-certification Infant CPR class is designed specifically for expectant parents. Our essential hands-on class provides the skills and confidence to turn a life-threatening situation into a lifesaving one. Come gain the confidence, skills and knowledge essential to saving an infant's life.

Hugh R. Black Pavilion-Mary Black Campus 

Available to cancer survivors at no charge, the Survivorship Program offers semi-monthly workout sessions that will focus on helping you build strength and improve your cardiovascular health through a combination of exercises. Whether you're a fitness enthusiast or just starting out, our experienced trainers will guide you every step of the way. Join us for this opportunity to boost your overall health and well-being. 

These sessions will be held by Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System's Sports Medicine Institute.

Cleveland Park Events Center  

Falls in people ages 65 and older are among the most common injuries in that age population. As a result, many seniors are unable to remain independent.  

The Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program is a free fall prevention program that includes a one-hour, twice-per-week group fitness class where all participants work at their own pace. Anyone over the age of 50, including those who use walkers or canes, can participate in the SAIL program.

Cleveland Park Events Center 

Join Carolyn Bailey, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, each Wednesday for Balance and Breathe Yoga. Slips, trips and falls are the leading cause of injury for older adults. This class is designed to help prevent the process of deterioration and loss of muscle mass that can lead to falls.  

Registration is not required. Please join us at any session that fits your schedule.  

Beginners are welcome. You must be able to get on and off the floor without assistance.

A certified lactation specialist facilitates an open, supportive forum to talk about the challenges and joys of breastfeeding in a casual gathering for breastfeeding moms and babies from birth through six months. Meet other mothers, discuss concerns and learn tips on breastfeeding and life with a new baby.   

 

Looking Inside the Heart  

Wednesday, Aug. 6. noon to 1 p.m. 

Gibbs Cancer Center-Pelham 

The expression "seeing is believing" holds significant weight in the context of heart health. Visualized detailed images of coronary artery disease help provide comprehensive assessments of coronary artery health enabling doctors to make more accurate treatment decisions for their patients. They may also help motivate patients to prioritize their heart health by making necessary lifestyle changes to help reduce risks. 

Join us for lunch to hear Dr. Joseph Mobley, a cardiologist with Medical Group of the Carolinas – Cardiology – Pelham, shares information about advanced imaging tests available including cardiac CTAs and calcium scoring CTs, which heart conditions they help diagnose and how they help determine the best course of treatment for patients.

 

Breast Cancer Support Group - Hybrid 

Monday, Aug. 11, 5:45 to 7 p.m. 

Gibbs Cancer Center – Spartanburg or online 

The Survivorship Program offers a unique, monthly opportunity for breast cancer patients and survivors to connect with one another at no charge.  

Research shows that taking part in support groups where you both give and receive help is an effective way to reduce the stress and anxiety that can come with a breast cancer diagnosis. 

This support group will be led by Gail Ebert, MMFT, LMFT-A, CAMS-II, CPC of Illuminate Therapy, Spartanburg. 

This event will be held in person at Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg. If you are unable to attend in person, a virtual attendance option is available for this event.

Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases your risk for serious health problems, including stroke and heart attack. 

Pelham Medical Center partners with Eastside YMCA to offer free blood pressure screenings. In addition to having your blood pressure checked, you will receive a tracking card to help keep up with your numbers plus education about what the numbers mean and ways to control hypertension.

Learn everything you need to know about the childbirth process and the options available during pregnancy, labor and delivery. In this class, we provide the information you need to reduce anxiety and help you have a more positive birth experience. Prepared Childbirth is a comprehensive, fact-based and fun class covering various topics about your baby's birthday. 

 

Music Therapy-Cancer Patients and Survivors 

Thursday, Aug. 14, 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. 

Gibbs Cancer Center–Spartanburg 

The Survivorship Program offers monthly opportunities for survivors to fellowship with one another while engaging in music therapy. 

Music therapy interventions can target a variety of healthcare goals such as promoting wellness, managing stress, alleviating pain, expressing feelings and emotions, enhancing memory, improving communication, promoting physical rehabilitation, sensory processing and more. This session will be hosted by Carolina Music Therapy. 

This unique offering from the Survivorship Program is available to cancer survivors at no charge. 

 

Prepared Parents: Infant Care   

Thursday, Aug. 14, 6 to 8 p.m. 

Spartanburg Medical Center 

This course prepares expectant parents for their baby's arrival. Topics include breastfeeding, diapering, bathing, and medical and safety information. A local pediatrician and a perinatal educator will lead this class. 

 

Community Blood Pressure Screening  

Monday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. to noon

Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases your risk for serious health problems, including stroke and heart attack. 

Pelham Medical Center partners with Middle Tyger YMCA Family Center to offer free blood pressure screenings. In addition to having your blood pressure checked, you will receive a tracking card to help keep up with your numbers plus education about what the numbers mean and ways to control hypertension. 

 

Just the Ticket 

Monday, Aug. 18, 4 to 5 p.m. 

Online 

During this comprehensive course, offered by Spartanburg Medical Center and Safe Kids of the Piedmont, you will learn about South Carolina's child passenger safety laws, the safest way to secure your child in a vehicle, proper car seat installation, when to update or replace your child's car seat and other safety tips to help keep your child safe on the road. 

Attendees who have violations of the child passenger occupant law on their records can receive a certificate of completion as proof of participation. This class is only offered once for child passenger occupant violations. 

This is an online event, and you will receive the link once you have registered. 

 

Cardiac Connection-Benefits of Acupuncture 

Monday, Aug. 18, noon to 1 p.m. Gibbs Cancer Center-Pelham  

Wednesday, Aug. 20, noon to 1 p.m. Heart Wellness Center 

Acupuncture is a traditional medicine technique that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to relieve pain and promote healing. Did you also know that itimproves cardiovascular health by promoting blood circulation, reducing stress and improving heart rate variability? Come join us and guest presenter, Dawn Garrison, with Carolina Family Acupuncture to learn more.  

Cardiac Connection is a community group that supports people of all ages who have experienced a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack or stroke, had surgery related to the heart or are at risk for heart disease. Relevant topics and speakers vary. Bring your lunch and a friend! 

 

Prepared: Breastfeeding

Spartanburg Medical Center 

Our breastfeeding class is an in-depth introduction that includes the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby. In this class, you will learn about milk production, feeding cues, latching techniques, milk storage and problem-solving tips for successful breastfeeding.  

 

Diabetes Wellness Circle  

Tuesday, Aug. 19, noon to 1 p.m. 

Spartanburg Medical Center or online 

Join us at noon on the third Tuesday of every month for this hybrid (virtual and in-person) support group. Meetings are designed for 30-45 minutes of education followed by 15-30 minutes of discussion. Please join the meeting then stay as long as you are able. This is a hybrid meeting, so you may come in person or join us virtually through Microsoft Teams. If you would like to come in person you must call (864-560-6487) or email Madison (mapate@srhs.com) to reserve your seat in the classroom as space is limited.  If you do not contact us directly, a link to the virtual meeting will be sent the day before through your email. 

 

Safe Kids 101 for New and Expecting Parents  

Thursday, Aug. 21, 4 to 5 p.m. 

Online 

This one-hour webinar includes safety topics that will help you keep your child safe and avoid accidents and injuries. 

This class will share information about basic car seat features, installation techniques and how to choose an appropriate car seat based on your child's age, height and weight. 

Learn ways to avoid accidents in the home involving fire, burns, drowning, falls and poisonings. Know how to identify safe and unsafe sleep environments for your baby. This is an online event. You will receive the link to the event after you register. 

 

Weight Loss Surgery-Online Support Group  

Thursday, Aug. 21, noon to 1 p.m. 

Online  

This group provides Upstate area support for patients in all phases of the weight loss surgery process. Combined with the help of friends and family members, this support group allows you to network with others who have experienced similar challenges and lifestyle changes after weight loss surgery. Patients who have not yet had surgery are encouraged to attend.   

 

Men’s Health Seminar  

Thursday, Aug. 28, 6 to 8 p.m. 

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church 

Join us for a free men’s health seminar focused on prostate health and cancer awareness, hosted at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, in partnership with Gibbs Cancer Center and the Men of Omega Psi Phi of Spartanburg. 

This important event will provide valuable information on prostate health, early detection and testing for prostate cancer- empowering men to take charge of their well-being. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, ask questions and connect with healthcare professionals in a supportive setting. All men are welcome!
