For 22 years, Sylvia Jamison has worked in the pathology lab.

And over that time, her coworkers have known her for her professionalism, collegiality and willingness to give back.

One way Jamison gives back is as a consistent donor to Spartanburg Regional Foundation's annual employee campaign.

“I like helping people. There are people who are a lot less fortunate than I am, and it's great anytime you can help,” she said.

Jamison is a transcriptionist in the pathology lab. She records the observations of physicians and pathology assistants who examine tissue removed during surgery. This varies from gall bladders to a biopsy test for cancer.   

And she knows the work is essential.

“Patients' caregivers count on what we provide them, so they'll know what the best treatment options are,” she said.

Giving from the Heart

Jamison's passion for patients and her work translates into her giving to the Spartanburg Regional Foundation.

She gives each year from the heart. She often supports cancer screenings, because her grandmother fought breast cancer. She also gives to other funds including hospice.   

“Sylvia exemplifies the very spirit of concern for others,” said Foundation Director of Philanthropy Shelly Sinclair, who heads up the annual employee campaign. “Sylvia is dedicated to her work and to making a difference in the lives of our patients and the community.”

In addition to making donations, Jamison has been a regular volunteer at events.

While the healthcare system helped shape her life, the lives of others have benefited from her work and generosity.

“There are a lot of people out there who are in need, and supporting the Foundation is a way to make a difference,” she said.
